JOB GOALS: Responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with the goals of improving student athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for any and all weight room training sessions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Design and co-teach strength and performance classes with certified teacher.
- Design and implement strength training and performance programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs in a manner that reflects research-driven practices.
- Work in coordination with the athletic department to develop and oversee an appropriate strength training program which supports athletes and coaches during the summer months.
- Assess all athletes prior to activity to determine individual proficiency levels.
- Create programming for athletes based on proficiency levels.
- Develop a system to accurately and regularly track athlete progress.
- Develop and enforce policies/rules for the weight room.
- Collaborate with sports coaches.
- Counsel athletes on nutrition, weight control, flexibility, speed improvement, and jumping ability.
- Set up and run conditioning programs.
- Work in cooperation with the athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
- Test for and hand out weight club awards.
- Ensure the equipment in the weight room is properly cared for by doing the following as needed:
- Repair equipment
- Keep files on equipment
- Recommend new purchases
- Order replacement parts
- Educate all MCS coaches, wellness teachers, and feeder coaches on the goals of the Strength and Conditioning program.
- Keep and maintain a linear wellness curriculum.
- Educate all coaches and athletes on the latest trends and data research from NSCA and NHSSCA.
- Speak at parent meetings as needed.
- Remain current and up-to-date in the strength and conditioning field by:
- Obtaining appropriate Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist credentials
- Completing CEU’s to retain certification
- Attend conventions/clinics
- Subscribing to journals/newsletters
- Attending athletic events
- Facilitate a collaborative relationship among the Health and Physical Education Department and sport coaches.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- We prefer a candidate with a current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency from one or more of the following organizations: USAW, CSCS, HSSCC, or NHSSCA.
- Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, and effectively present information.
MATHEMATICAL SKILL:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes.
- Ability to visually monitor athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.

EVALUATION: An evaluation will be done on the employee’s performance throughout the school year, performed by the athletic director. |
