JOB GOALS: To coordinate smooth and safe transportation of students to and from school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Prepare seating charts at the beginning of the school year for elementary routes.
- Contact parents on assigned routes at the beginning of the school year and during the school year as needed.
- Conduct pre-trip inspection on assigned bus each day bus is driven.
- Fill fuel tank of assigned bus as needed.
- Sweep, wash interior & exterior, general cleaning of assigned bus.
- Set up preventive maintenance appointments with corporation bus mechanic.
- Record disciplinary actions.
- Check all bus seats after each trip for damage.
- Attend required driver meetings, or any other required meetings.
- Comply with random drug screening, according to MCS Board policy #4162 and 4122.01.
- Stay up-to-date on current safety standards, laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to pupil transportation.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and bus driver training.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid state CDL driver’s license with bus driver endorsement. Carry a current Department of Transportation physical requirement card. Must be trained in CPR, first aid and passenger assistance.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, and effectively present information.
MATHEMATICAL SKILL:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to pass DOT physical.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Position is typically indoors, inside a school bus. Work may occasionally be outdoor when loading or unloading students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
180 days of school per year. Hours will vary according to assigned route. Salary and benefits as per Classified Policy. Paid holidays for regular full-time drivers.
EVALUATIONS:
An evaluation will be done on the employee’s performance on an annual basis.
