POSITION PURPOSE: Specializes in diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and hearing problems by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Conduct speech, language, hearing screens.
- Diagnose and evaluate speech, language and hearing skills as related to educational, medical, social,and psychological factors.
- Plan, direct and conduct habilitative and rehabilitative treatment programs to develop communicativeefficiency of individuals with communication delays.
- Provide counseling and guidance in speech and language development therapy to enhance disabledindividuals.
- Review individual files obtaining background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriateassessment protocol.
- Administer, score, and interpret specialized speech and language assessments and hearing screenings.
- Develop individualized educational plans for students to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities.
- Conduct evaluations within guidelines established through Article 7.
- Report progress on IEP goals on a quarterly basis.
- Attend/hold case conferences within guidelines established through Article 7.
- Review treatment plans and assess individual performance as it relates to the IEP.
- Maintain records required by law, establishes policy and administrative regulations.
- Attend meetings and conferences to promote professional growth.
- Instruct individuals to monitor their own speech and provide ways to practice skills.
- Serve as consultant for classroom teachers, psychologist, principals, and counselors to promote speechand language development activities in the daily schedule.
- Bill Medicaid as eligible for services rendered.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team for evaluation and programming
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Appropriate certifications by the Indiana Department of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with groups of students, parents, and school staff.
- Skills in human relations.
- Ability to plan and organize; good work habits.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations requiring decision making.
- Other qualifications that the Governing Council may require.
WORK CALENDAR: School year; 184 days per year; 40 hours per week
